A class action lawsuit against LG Electronics alleges that some of its refrigerators, equipped with linear compressors, are failing to cool properly within 36 months of purchase. This widespread issue has led to significant consumer inconvenience and financial burden, prompting legal action to hold LG accountable for the alleged defects.

LG Electronics has reached a settlement deal for a LG refrigerator class action lawsuit to resolve claims that the company’s refrigerators stopped cooling due to a compressor defect. According to the settlement motion, about 1.5 million consumers could receive cash payments and extended warranty coverage.

A class action lawsuit has been filed against LG Electronics alleging a defect is causing some of its fridges to stop cooling. The refrigerators at issue contain linear compressors, which were supposedly meant to make the fridges more reliable and durable.

In late 2023, a 191-page lawsuit was filed against LG and its parent company, Kenmore, for faulty parts. One faulty part in particular, the linear compressor, experiences common issues that cause the fridge to stop working long before its 10-year warranty and advertised 20-year lifespan.

Ford Hebner of Cicero and Dale Bell of Wheatfield are among more than 100 consumers who have filed a class action lawsuit against LG, Kenmore’s parent company, as well as several retailers. The 191-page lawsuit, updated in September 2023, focuses on LG’s linear compressor, a part that is supposed to keep the fridge and your food cold.
