Malayan tapirs are distinguished among their species for their black and white colouring which functions as camouflage, breaking up their outline in dense forests. Tapirs have a short prehensile trunk that functions as an extended nose and upper lip and allows them to grip branches.

Apr 27, 2024 · We celebrated the 2024 World Tapir Day with 22-year-old male ‘Tanuck’ and 3-year-old female ‘Sempurna’, who debuted at the zoo just in time for this special day! Sempurna recently completed her quarantine at our Archibald Biodiversity Centre.

Malayan tapirs and red-crowned cranes will be viewable in their outdoor habitats (weather permitting). White-handed gibbons will not be viewable for the duration of the project.
