Several beaches in areas of Sydney, Australia including iconic Bondi were closed to the public for 24 hours after the discovery of mysterious and bizarre tar balls

Sydney’s famous Bondi Beach has been closed, joining several other popular swimming spots along the city’s picturesque east coast, after thousands of toxic tar balls washed ashore in recent days.

Sydney: All Sydney beaches reopened on Saturday after several were closed due to tar ball pollution. Seven beaches in Sydney had been closed after thousands of mysterious ball-shaped debris washed ashore over several days starting on Tuesday.

SYDNEY: Beaches in Sydney re-opened on Saturday (Oct 19) for swimmers after authorities cleared thousands of black pollution balls washed ashore, which testing found to be formed from chemicals similar to those in cosmetics and cleaning products.

Penny Sharp, the environment minister of New South Wales, said investigations were continuing to find what was behind the formation of these tar balls. Waverley Council closed Bondi, Bronte, and Tamarama beaches as a precaution on Thursday evening,
