Amazon global grocery stores leader is leaving the tech giant as it continues its quest to figure out the key retail segment.

Tony Hoggett, the retailer’s senior vice president of worldwide grocery stores, is leaving after nearly three years at the company.

E-commerce giant Amazon, which began testing brick-and-mortar versions of its online food store a decade ago and recently unveiled new concepts, will open the Baltimore area’s first Amazon

As Amazon calibrates and changes its approach to grocery, one of its architects is leaving the company. Tony Hoggett, SVP of worldwide grocery stores at Amazon, revealed on Oct. 25 that he’s exiting Amazon after three years.

The Greater Baltimore region is about to get their first Amazon Fresh grocery store. Doors officially open November 7 at 6711 Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie.

The new concept comes at a time when Amazon has hit the reset button on its grocery strategy. This year, the company began opening Amazon Fresh stores over the summer—in Bensalem, Pennsylvania; Eatontown, New Jersey; and in the Chicago suburb of Arlington Heights, Illinois—after putting the expansion plan on hold in 2023.

Amazon Fresh opened Thursday, Oct. 24 in Torrance, taking its place among a revolving door of grocery stores at Hawthorne and Torrance boulevards.
