Stocks were lower Monday as the month and quarter came to an end and following a speech from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell that mostly reiterated his usual talking points of making interest-rate decisions meeting by meeting and emphasizing the central bank’s dual mandate of restoring price stability without causing painful rise in unemployment.

Budget-friendly retailers Dollar Tree and Dollar General lost more than 3% midday, both of which were among the top five S&P 500 losers. Nvidia lost nearly 1% after Bloomberg reported a potential pullback from Chinese firms. Tesla, Microsoft, and Amazon were down midday, while Apple, Alphabet, and Meta Platforms were up.

Shares of NVIDIA remain in a long-term bullish trend with a target price of $150. Shares of Costco ( COST) are at the top of the most-watched list today as the stock dropped almost 2% the day before the company’s earnings report.
