A clinical trial has identified foods like cakes, chips, cookies, fried items, mayonnaise, margarine, and ultra-processed products, which are high in advanced glycation end products (AGEs), as major contributors to India’s status as the world’s diabetes capital.

Research published in "The Lancet Regional Health – Europe" found that sugary drinks, ready-to-eat meals, savory snacks, and processed meats were more closely linked to Type 2 diabetes than other ultra-processed foods.
