Can someone help me understand why fantasy maps look so fake?
WEBMay 9, 2023 · The majority of any given category of stuff isn’t great. Fantasy maps are usually made by people who aren’t artists or especially informed about geology. They can fall short in a variety of ways. A common, subtle way is “fill in the rectangle”. The lands more or less fill the page they were drawn on.

You know what I'm tired of? 100% accurate fantasy maps.
WEBAug 27, 2021 · A few examples; Middle-Earth, Sword Coast, Tamriel, Thedas. These look fare more accurate and detailed than most medieval maps. What I would like to see more of are some wildly inaccurate or speculative maps of fantasy worlds, not just because it's something different but it also captures the imagination better.
